I know just about everybody has turned their back on the Bay after the mainstream hyphy blitz a couple of years back, but I’m a Northern Cali boy and I never will. You see, the “Hyphy Movement” is a prime example of the negative side effects that come from mainstream success- videos on MTV (they play videos?)  + songs in regular rotation on KIIS FM (Seacrest out) x white kids making youtube videos= FAD!!!!!! But hyphy isn’t a fad, and neither is any of the other music coming out of the Bay. Crunk, now that’s a fad. For those of you that have written the bay off I would like to introduce you to D-LO (he don’t give a f@*k about no hoe) and Sleepy “f@*king” D. Both of these artists have been hustling their music very hard this year (they’re cousins), and the result of that is the surprisingly good guilty pleasure The Tonite Show with D-LO. If you don’t believe ME you can read about the guys in the Summer Music issue of FADER and on FADER’s blog (they obviously have more credibility than I do), or you can just listen to the song below and Google them. Let me know when I can say “I told you so.”
